Laura Lee Ochoa roots what may very well be the group’s soul with a steady-handed bass as guitarist Mark Speer creates life in the electricity between his chords. DJ Johnson backdrops, pacing meditative pings from his drums. Together, they skirted the borders of genre, finding harmonies equally familiar and exotic, exquisite and domestic. In addition to their new hits, Khruangbin also offers time-tested classics, which may include “August 10,” “Maria También,” “White Gloves,” “Time (You and I),” and “People Everywhere (Still Alive),” going back to 2015’s The Universe Smiles Upon You LP.
Guest John Carroll Kirby provides support through his atmospheric jazz piano performance. His solo work features singles “Wind,” “Mates,” and “Rainmaker”, though much of his acclaim revolves around collaboration, which spans Grammy-nominated breakthroughs with Norah Jones and Solange.
